West Nile Virus Update

West Nile Virus (WNV) testing season in California public health laboratories began May 1, 2012. To date in Sacramento County over 170 dead birds and over 120 mosquito samples have tested positive for WNV. In California 1 human case of WNV was reported in Kern County. Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District has conducted aerial treatment for mosquitoes that began on Sunday July 1, 2012 and will end on Monday July 2, 2012 in both the northern and southern regions of Sacramento County. This is a reminder of the need for prompt and early recognition and reporting of human cases of WNV.

If you need information regarding West Nile Virus reporting criteria please contact the Sacramento County Communicable Disease and Epidemiology Unit at (916) 875-5881 between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
