Grand Opening and Orientation

April 27, 2013 10:00am - 1:00pm

Rainbow Park Community Garden, 3901 42nd Avenue

(If it rains the event will be at Fruitridge Community Center)

The District has completed the first phase of our Rainbow Park Community Garden located on 42nd Avenue, just east of Martin Luther King Boulevard.  We will be having an Opening/Orientation day on Saturday April 27th from 10:00am-1:00pm at the garden (if it rains the event will be held at the Fruitridge Community Center at 4000 Fruitridge Road).  At this event prospective gardeners can complete the orientation, fill out registration forms, select a plot and pay the annual fees.  Come and talk with Park District staff, Bill Maynard our Community Gardner expert and other interested gardeners from the neighborhood.

The goal of this community garden project is to provide neighborhood residents access to fresh, local food by growing their own fruits and vegetables with the desired result of improving nutrition and providing an opportunity for exercise and fresh air.  Community gardens provide a great place to spend time with family, friends and neighbors!

I am attaching a flyer that has the information about the Opening/Orientation event which also includes a phone number where people can call to get information to sign-up for a garden plot.
