The Santa Ana Building Healthy Communities
(SABHC) selected the following goals as priorities for the upcoming years:
- Community Empowerment: An empowered and civically engaged
community is a catalyst for change. We
want to organize in order to change the policies and the systems that affect
our lives and the lives of our children.
- Integrated services and systems: We believe that services and systems
need to focus on families and individuals that use them. We want the services to really improve the
health of our children, youth and families.
- Health promoting land use and planning: We have learned that there are ways
in which city residents can participate in the decision making that affects
their lives and that land use plans include healthy and affordable housing,
safe open spaces, and access to healthy food options.
- Community Safety: Improve the relationships between
community residents and the police and find solutions to violence. A safe place is a healthy place.
- Youth development, education and
career opportunities:
Our youth is full of novel ideas and they have a lot to share. Their involvement and leadership at all
levels is important for our success.
- Economic Empowerment: We believe we must invest in real
pathways out of poverty including jobs that pay livable wages and opportunities
to building financial assets.
- Immigration reform: Immigration reform is much bigger
than Santa Ana but we have to work to make changes at the local, state, and
federal level. These changes will
improve the situation of our community.
