Fresno Has Spoken! Court Rules to Maintain our Health Care Safety Net!

posted Feb 25, 2014, 4:14 PM by Fresno BHC

Today, Fresno County Superior Court ruled that all Fresnans have a right to health care.

In a tentative ruling, the motion to dissolve the Medically Indigent Services Program has been denied. The court has found that, “because of the lack of health care that will result to a large segment of the population and its potential impact on an even larger segment of the population,” Fresno County should maintain a health care safety net.

The State of California Health and Human Services Agency agrees that nothing in the Affordable Care Act or in California law requires the county to change their health care safety net program. In fact, Fresno County stands to lose $14.5 million in health care funds if it scales back or eliminates the program.

Thank you Fresno BHC Prevention Team and community partners for advocating for everyone’s right to health care... We’re in this together!
