Join us for a virtual town hall with members of the California State Assembly. California lawmakers are considering two proposals to address the state’s ongoing prison crowding crisis. Come share your thoughts about how you want your tax dollars spent.

Using new technology that allows elected officials to connect with and share information with constituents, the Virtual Town Hall will allow California legislators the opportunity to engage their constituents in a dialogue about prison crowding and the state's criminal justice approaches and priorities. Using a Google Hangout Session (an easy-to-use, high quality video platform that allows for multiple participants), legislators will be speaking with Los Angeles residents about the recent proposals being considered by lawmakers to address prison overcrowding.

BACKGROUND ON THE VIRTUAL TOWN HALL
In the last two weeks, two proposals have been submitted to the California legislature to fix ongoing prison crowding – a problem that has cost the state billions upon billion of dollars over the last three decades.

Attend the town hall to hear about the proposal from Governor Brown and the proposal from Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg and his fellow Senate Democrats. Listen to the differences in the proposal to see which is cost effective, serves the public best, and considers what experts are saying the is needed to reduce recidivism.
