Background
The Statewide Steering Committee for Youth Leadership was first convened in 2012 to respond to an identified need for more structured youth engagement in  the BHC work at a statewide level.  The California Endowment and partnering agencies recognized that youth engagement was emerging as a key strategy to accomplish BHC outcomes in many of the sites.  The Steering Committee was created to support the work of the sites, take advantage of the growing youth voice and lift up youth and youth culture as important perspectives and tools in the efforts to change systems and policies to improve health of communities.

Mission and Purpose
The BHC Youth Steering Committee amplifies the voice, creativity and power of youth to organize and advocate for transformational change and healing in our communities and across California.

The Steering Committee purpose is to:

·      Coordinate and support statewide youth structure development;

·      Create opportunities for cross site youth engagement learning;

·      Support cross site communication regarding youth leadership;

·      Guide statewide youth policy advocacy efforts;

·      Represent and support local communities; and

·      Encourage and build mechanisms for cross-site support and communications.

In 2014 the Steering Committee will focus it’s work on guiding statewide youth policy advocacy and creating opportunities for cross-site learning.

Members
